Brand-New Physical Workshop for Actors! This workshop is open to our teen students as well as our adult students. 

Saturday, June 1st from 9:00am-1:00pm

This workshop is a series of progressive physical, mind/body exercises. Working head to toe and with breath techniques – Working both individually and in collaborative groups. There will be creative reflection/charting/mapping of techniques and tools for student’s future growth.  Students will learn through moving, learning optimum alignment and mechanics (Alexander Technique), guided Improvisations, Increasing actors’ toolbox with dance, yoga and mime Techniques,  for developing  characters’ physical presence, way of moving, expressing,  and also some great practices for increasing body memory.

Christina Bouajila has abundant education and success in visual and performing arts. She earned her BFA at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and then later went to New Mexico Highlands for education and taught in Public schools.  She has taught over nine hundred children and many adults.  She is a devoted educator with great understanding of how to create effective learning experiences.  She naturally integrates skills and techniques from several movement traditions including mime, and many forms of dance, martial arts, and yoga. She shares her unique awareness  generously for  her students.  She considers herself an artist for stage, film and life. Her recent work in New Mexico includes credits on 24 independent film projects since 2007 as actor, art director, art department, storyboard artist, and set PA.  She also wrote, directed, designed and performed a solo show in 2011. She volunteers regularly in various capacities to support local theater and independent film.

Every actor needs to develop techniques for greater relaxation, breath control, and vocal production for stage, film and public speaking. The possibilities of the voice are infinite.  The program includes:

  • Speech (diction) exercises to learn the correct placement of all of the consonants and vowels in Standard American Speech, to eliminate regionalisms, and to give a clarity to the actor’s speech without sounding phony
  • Voice work to develop a centered, supported voice by working on relaxation, breathing, resonance, stress, volume, and melody
  • A variety of exercises applying the speech and voice work to contemporary scenes and monologues.

This class is taught by Joanne Camp. Joanne’s Film/TV credits include: Private Parts, Law & Order, Damages, The Luckiest Man in the World, and Canterbury’s Law. Joanne moved to Albuquerque 3 years ago from New York City, where her 30-year professional acting career includes working on and off Broadway, in film and TV. Her work has been recognized with Drama Desk & Tony Award nominations, Clarence Derwent & Theatre World Awards.  Additionally Joanne was a 25-year member of The Pearl Theatre Company where she performed in over 50 classical productions from Aeschylus to Hellman.  Her work at The Pearl has been recognized with an Obie Award for Continued Excellence and a Joseph A Callaway Award for Classical Performance.

Since arriving in NM, Joanne has directed The Seagull at Vortex Theater, and has been seen as Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf at Santa Fe University, at Albuquerque’s FUSION Theatre in August: Osage County, The Mandrake & First Love, and in the independent feature film, “Warrior Woman” with Julie Reichert directing.   Joanne is a member of SAG-AFTRA & Actors Equity Association.

This is the perfect class for someone who is ready to explore the exciting world of acting on camera. Get vital information on all of the basics as you work on camera during every class: auditioning, cold reading, commercials, movies, television shows, and what to expect when you’re on set. We will also discuss networking, resumes, head shots, finding an agent, and gaining access to auditions.  Class size is limited to 10 students.  Each session of Acting 101 features a special guest. New Dates  for the perfect follow up to Acting Technique 1 runs Wednesdays, June 12th through August 7th.

Cultivating the imagination and “flexing emotional muscle” is the essence of Acting Technique 2.

Employing the tools learned in Acting Technique 1, we’ll dive ever deeper into the process of imagining and building circumstances which move us emotionally and connect us profoundly to our fellow actors. With focus on making compelling choices as preparation, students will play out heightened circumstances in paired exercises and in-class script work. In addition, students will learn Sanford Meisner’s “Repetition Exercise” a revolutionary tool for training focus outside the self and ultimately freeing organic response.

Pre-requisite: Acting Technique 1

Vic Browder is a veteran of theater, film and TV (Sunshine Cleaning, Love Ranch, Breaking Bad, In Plain Sight, Easy Money, MacGruder and more). He is a company member and resident director at Albuquerque’s Mother Road Theater Company. Vic holds an MFA in Acting and has been acting and directing for over 25 years.

Magali Arreola Henderson has worked on Television for over a decade in New Mexico.  And now she is adventuring in the world of producing in Spanish, her native language. But her first love is acting; Magali through her life has been involved in Community Theater as well as to train behind the cameras for film. Magali is a great believer in using your own life experiences to grow and develop as an actor.
